Tie-Dye Day - The Shirts

So, here is "part 2" of Tie-Dye Day - The Shirts.
These were really fun to make, although if we make them again, I'm going to allow 2 days for this (I'll explain why when we get there). This is a pretty easy project, and is good for pretty much any age group (with modifications - I did "spray-dyed shirts" with my summer care group of 5yr olds one time, and so did the pre-school teacher).

Tie-Dye Day - The Cupcakes

Yesterday was tie-dye day. Brittany and I made tie-dye shirts and cupcakes, fun and yum!
First you need to check out The Letter 4's blog post on their Massive Volcanic Cupcakes, since they were our inspiration. We made 2 batches: 1 batch of 12 "regular size" cupcakes, and 1 batch of 6 "jumbo size" cupcakes. {If you don't have a jumbo pan, seriously, buy one (here it is on Amazon). They make those nice giant coffee-house sized muffins that are so good. } Ok, moving on ...

Peach Sauce

I happen to love peaches in the early summer. Specifically, I love white peaches. They are so juicy and sweet! So, I had 3 who were starting to get a little to soft to eat - what to do, what to do?
Peach Sauce!

It's pretty idiot proof to make, really. I use the recipe from Our Best Bites' Strawberry Sauce (also delicious) and just use peaches instead. I'd love to try this with pineapple sometime too.

Literally follow the directions step-by-step, just with peaches :) yum!
It's good on ice cream, or cake, or a spoonful in a glass of tea or lemonade (or to just eat).

Peach Sauce, still warm.

On a side note : I leave the skin on the peach, I figure, if I'm going to blend it anyway why not pack in those nutrients. If you want a slightly "chunky" sauce, I'd remove the skin, since it won't be blended as smoothly.

Patriotic Cupcakes

Yeah, yum, right?!?! I used the recipe on Our Best Bites for the Colorburst Cupcakes. I chose to do red & blue (with the white cupcake mix) to make them patriotic. Top with some frosting (I was lazy, and used the can kind) and sprinkles - and yum! Also yum - the half a can of frosting I have left :)
These were relatively easy to make, I had a slight problem with getting the batter to spread out evenly, and figuring out how much to use (hence why the bottoms have so much more color than the tops), but it worked out pretty well for my first try. Also - I used Key Lime yogurt (it was that or activia), I don't recommend Key Lime. It gives the cupcakes a slightly tart taste, which, if I want a cupcake, it better taste like sugar loaded with sugar, and some sugar on top :)  I'm looking forward to trying these again sometime (with vanilla yogurt) and more colors, see if I can get a tie-dye thing going :)

Blogging to be blogging ...

I hope everyone's 4th of July went well. We had a fairly good day. But, the holiday is over and it's time to return to our normal lives. I have been working on keeping the house tidy, and slowly unpacking things. Getting the rooms organized, sorting through what needs to be put away, what need to be stored. Etc, etc, etc ... I have been making progress in the office, slowly, and trying to work on our 2nd bedroom.
This is what I've done in there (and, what the room will be used for) :

Any guesses? :)  Here - I'll show you the top shelf :

Yup!! Our little family is (finally) expanding. Our little blessing will be here in January, and we can't wait.
I'm excited to start working on the nursery and getting everything ready for him or her.  I just need to clean out the rest of the room now, to make way for all the baby stuff. And now, I need to go get a snack. We're hungry! :)
