Tie-Dye Day - The Cupcakes

Yesterday was tie-dye day. Brittany and I made tie-dye shirts and cupcakes, fun and yum!
First you need to check out The Letter 4's blog post on their Massive Volcanic Cupcakes, since they were our inspiration. We made 2 batches: 1 batch of 12 "regular size" cupcakes, and 1 batch of 6 "jumbo size" cupcakes. {If you don't have a jumbo pan, seriously, buy one (here it is on Amazon). They make those nice giant coffee-house sized muffins that are so good. } Ok, moving on ...

First, gather your ingredients:
You need white cake mix (plus the eggs, oil, water, etc...), food coloring, cupcake wrappers, and frosting (and sprinkles, if you want).

Prepare the batter as directed, and decide how many colors you'd like (we did 5). Divide your batter equally into bowls, then add food coloring into each bowl and stir well.

We chose to do 5 bright colors

Now you're going to spoon your batter into the cupcake cups, we just did random amounts and colors in each one - nothing prefect, and filled each cup up almost to the brim :)

And now you bake, and wait for those yummy looking cakes to be done. The regular ones take about 5 extra minutes, and the jumbo ones take about 5 more. We just kept doing the toothpick test to be sure they were done in the middle.

Let them cool, then frost, decorate, and eat. YUM!
