24

Typing this post is a bit overwhelming for me, yet I'm hoping it will take away some of the stress I've been carrying. And maybe it will provide hope and encouragement for someone.
A friend recently announced her pregnancy, and has been posting about their journey. Reading about the struggles someone else has had, especially someone I actually know, has helped. While it is really sad, and quite a bummer people have to go through this, it is nice to know you aren't alone. Other people have to deal with the emotions, stress, and disappointment, too. So, thank you, friend.

Culture Shock

This past weekend, my husband and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary.
{Woo-Hoo!}
So we were able to take a little weekend away, just the two of us, to celebrate, and decided to 'road-trip' to/through Pennsylvania.
I'll blog about our trip, where we went, what we did, etc ... soon -
But, we had a bit of a 'cultural difference' while we were there.
It's a bit humorous.

We are from Central Virginia. Born and raised.
(Some people try to lump our area into NoVA. No. We are not NoVA. We are Southerners. )
People have told my husband he has an accent, but, we don't hear it. We aren't Deep South y'all, just, not Northern either. Anyway, we couldn't 'hear' any accent when we were in PA, other than noticing we sounded a bit Southern. With words like 'y'all', and all.

However, they don't have sweet tea.

Huh?
They DON'T HAVE SWEET TEA!!!!
We live off sweet tea. It is our water.
How is sweet tea a 'Southern' thing?
This really surprised us.
And we were at a Chili's, too.
They only serve un-sweet, with little sweetener packets if you need.
Or the sugary Lipton-esk varieties.
Even their blackberry tea is unsweetened.
Our server ask us how we make tea. And ask if we 'brew our tea down there'?
They just don't drink sweet tea up there. Or even know how to make it, apparently.
(She also ask us if McDonald's sweet tea is what Southern tea is like ... umm, No. No one likes McD's sweet tea, it's gross. And we didn't know what their McD's tea tastes like. Who knows? We did tell her that our McD's use a 4lb bag of sugar per batch of tea, which is insane. )

So - how do you make tea?
Hot tea I understand, but, are there other ways to make iced tea?
Boil water, steep tea bags, add a ton of sugar and more water, enjoy.
Diabetes optional.

That was a bit of a 'culture shock' for us. Somewhere not serving sweet tea.
I'd never even thought about it. I just assumed all people enjoyed sweet tea.
Or at least that a major restaurant chain like Chili's would be serving it nationwide.

Do you have sweet tea where you live?
Or any other unique 'area differences'?

Big Savings At CVS

I've been trying to keep up with couponing lately.
Since I don't get the newspapers, some weeks are a bit harder than others
(I can usually grab my mom's paper inserts, if I need them).
A few weeks ago I did a CVS trip and earned $5 ECB. I also scored a rain check for Purex detergent, since my local CVS was out of stock and it was on sale B1G2 free.
So today I used my $5 ECB, (3) $1 Purex coupons, and (4) 50c Dawn dish soap coupons,
to score 3 Purex detergents and 4 dish soaps for $1 out of pocket.
Woo-Hoo!!

$6.49 Purex
$6.49 Purex
$6.49 Purex
$.99 Dawn
$.99 Dawn
$.99 Dawn
$.99 Dawn
- $6.49 free Purex
- $6.49 free Purex
- $1.00 Purex MC
- $1.00 Purex MC
- $1.00 Purex MC
- $.50 Dawn MC
- $.50 Dawn MC
- $.50 Dawn MC
- $.50 Dawn MC
- $5.00 CVS ECB (coupon)
= $1.00 total after taxes!
(OR $.49 + tax)

** Unfortunately you can't do this deal, unless you have the CVS Purex raincheck. However, I've been seeing 'rumors' of a good Tide Detergent sale at CVS next week! **

If you're interested in couponing, I suggest following The Krazy Coupon Lady, Totally Target, and Yes We Coupon. Those are my 'top three' I tend to check daily. You can also follow them on facebook.

Well guys,
my baby boy is 2!
We celebrated his 2nd birthday at the end of January,
with a night out on his actual birthday, and a party that weekend.

To blog ... or not to blog ....

I went to bed the other night, and thought 'I need to blog ...  this and this and that'.
Then I recanted that thought.
Should I update my blog? Yeah, probably.
But shouldn't I want to? Again, yeah, probably.

I've been feeling a real lack of motivation lately.
In many, many aspects of life.

And so I came to realize,
I blog for me.
I don't blog for sponsors or readership
(although, I'm very happy people want to read my little blog and know what's up).
When I blog, it's for me, as an outlet.
Something I need to say. Something I want to share.
Not something I need to do, or another chore on my list.
And that little realization made me happy.
My blog is my 'public journal' so to speak, and I need to treat it as so.
So I will keep blogging, on my schedule, as I want, for me.
If you want to join me - check back soon.

Making Project Life Work For Me - Digitally

I have been playing around with a modified version of Project Life for my scrapbooks for a little while now, and thought I would share with you a bit of my experience.
When I first started it, I decided to buy several different page protector layouts and give it a try with prints and journal cards. I love it! It is so easy for me, and you can read about that here.
I had heard of people doing digital scrapbooking, and Digital Project Life, but didn't really think it would be my thing. Honestly, I didn't think I could get the hang of it.

18!

{OK, I am working on another PL/Scrapbooking post. I'm not going to leave you hanging. I just haven't scrapbooked in a bit}

Last weekend, my sis-in-law Brittany celebrated her 18th Birthday! WooHoo!
And of course, there was a party to celebrate, complete with family, food, and presents.

And, a cake.
Brittany happens to love all things Hobbit and LOTR.
So, of course, a Hobbit cake was in order.
And, of course, I massively over-thought this and created quite the idea of a cake in my mind.
A Hobbit hole, chocolate tree forest, and of course The Lonely Mountain!

Yup! Looks like a cake glacier coming to eat another cake blob.
So after some mangling of it by my husband, and the realization that I am not Buddy from Cake Boss (and that our cake would have to be tripled in size), we went with a Hobbit hole and the country side, with the Happy Birthday message written in Khuzdul, the language of the Dwarves.

It was also tie-dyed inside :)

Hello December

Hello blog readers,
I did not forget about you, or the posts I have been 'working' on ...
I've just been busy. With life and what not.
We celebrated Thanksgiving, did some holiday shopping, just celebrated my husband's birthday, and are celebrating my sis-in-law's birthday this coming weekend. Plus getting ready for Christmas. Yesh!

I leave you with a cute picture to enjoy:
My cute kid, eating 'Kwunchy Unyins' from the can.
He took the can from the food table and sat down with it.
He loves those things!
